DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Recovery from Injuries and Chronic Pain

Restore Mobility

Multidisciplinary Approach That Brings Success

Deep Tissue Massage

When specific areas of pain, restriction, injury or tension are encountered, Alchemy's therapists may use Deep Tissue Massage in these areas. Our therapists use their specialty training and often also incorporate the specific techniques of Trigger Point, Orthopedic and Myofascial work into these situations.

The techniques of Deep Tissue Massage provide:
  • Improved healing of damaged or stressed muscle tissue
  • Slower work addresses more specific areas
  • Recovery from injuries or chronic pain
  • Restoration of mobility and flexibility
  • Release of congested or stuck muscle fibers, restoring mobility and flexibility
  • Restored fluid flow to muscle fibers, increasing oxygen and nutrient availability
  • Relief from the discomfort of osteoarthritis
  • Release of fascia and connective tissue

Our Style of Deep Tissue at Alchemy

Elizabeth Sanders, LMT performing massageElizabeth Sanders, LMT
Our intention is to develop trust between the client, the client's body and the therapist. Working with the different levels of tissue, supporting fluid flow, noting depth, and listening to the tissue are all parts of our Deep Tissue work. This may feel different than an elbow in your shoulder or a thumb or tool pressed painfully into the depths of muscle tissue. We have found taking a bit of time and paying attention to be incredibly effective. If the body is in pain, it is often guarding or protecting. By moving in gently and slowly, we can often get past this guarding without activating the muscle tissue in a fight, creating more guarding.

There are times when an adhesion, area of tension or restriction will need deeper attention and this can be painful. There is a sweet spot to such pain; it is the "hurts so good" level. If we go past the "hurts so good" point and the client is grimacing, clenching or yelping, we have gone too far. We will work to soothe and calm the muscle, and then gently work with it again. After a massage, water, rest and gentle movement will often enhance the effects as the body settles in to a new way of being.

Often, deep tissue is an important part of a therapeutic session. We will also always want to return the focus to relaxation at the beginning and end of the session to allow the body to integrate and shift.

And finally, please note that our sessions are always charged by the time the individual therapist spends with you, not the modality, so even if you have scheduled and planned a Restorative session, if other modalities are needed, such as deep tissue, there will not be an up-charge at the end of your session.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE SPECIALISTS

All of the massage practitioners at Alchemy are trained and proficient in Deep Tissue techniques and will incorporate the work into your Therapeutic or Restorative Session.  Erin, Elizabeth, Lynne, and Lorin are all quite proficient and bring their intuitive sense of depth and touch to the session.

"
"Allowing the entire system to drop into a state of deep relaxation benefits the whole body, including areas of injury or pain. From a place of quiet relaxation, we slowly work into the depths of tight, painful muscles and fascia."
