CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

Picture
Elizabeth Sanders, LMT
Elizabeth  is a Licensed Massage Therapist who is certified in Clinical Massage Therapy. She is an experienced therapist with training in Swedish, Deep Tissue, PreNatal, and Myofascial Release Massage and CranioSacral Therapy. Elizabeth received her massage education in Hawaii at Hawaii Healing Arts College on the island of Oahu.

After completing their 600 hour program she stayed on as a Hawaii State Licensed Massage Therapist in their clinic. Within months of graduation Elizabeth found herself wanting even more from this new found passion. She began to pursue a certification in Clinical Massage Therapy. She spent another year completing the 200 hour program, learning more about the wonderful and complex human body, and fine tuning her skills. She spent several years in Hawaii, continuing her education further, and working with variety of clients.

Sessions with Elizabeth are based on time, as are all our sessions, and she is available for 1 hour and 1 1/2 hours. She incorporates all of her skills into giving you exactly the therapeutic massage you need that day.

Elizabeth sees clients on Monday, Friday, and Saturday.

"As a massage therapist, I strive to help clients become more aware and in touch with their bodies. I believe one of the keys to facilitate healing and bring balance to the body is self-awareness. Through massage, I hope to guide clients to balance through a connection of mind and body.

"Yes, sometimes it might sound a little silly, have you talked to your psoas today?  Yet these connections and conversations keep making a difference!"

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

Picture
A therapeutic massage session is generally looking to relieve pain and restrictions. Elizabeth will draw on her years of experience and training to best integrate the techniques, such as deep tissue, Swedish, myofascial and trigger point, to address the client's goals for the day.

With her clinical experience, Elizabeth welcomes people with orthopedic challenges and injuries. She has been successful in relieving pain, increasing function, and restoring freedom of movement for many clients.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

When specific areas of pain, restriction, injury or tension are encountered, Deep Tissue Massage is employed in these areas.

Elizabeth will use her specialty training and often incorporate the specific techniques of Trigger Point, Orthopedic and Myofascial work into these situations.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

When we experience pain, tightness, or a limited range of motion, releasing the fascia of the body can often bring significant and lasting benefits. Myofascial Release is a hands-on therapy that targets both the muscles (myo) and the fascia.
It uses a variety of techniques to promote pain relief, freedom of movement, postural balance, and deep relaxation as restrictions are released. You may experience significant relief and reduction of symptoms from these and other conditions with Myofascial Release.

RESTORATIVE MASSAGE

Creating a session that is tailored to your needs while nurturing the body and the spirit, Restorative Massage looks beyond simply fixing and seeks to ease pain, bring the myriad benefits of deep relaxation, as well as soothing the spirit. Restorative massage is not a single technique, it is more the quality of presence, awareness, and intuition that the therapist brings to the session.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

CranioSacral therapy is a light touch therapy that engages the natural healing ability of the body to clear imbalances resulting from stressors. In doing so, this therapy also alleviates pain and discomfort in the body.

Elizabeth is training in CranioSacral Therapy and will often bring CST techniques to her sessions  as well as offer sessions completely focused on CST.

"I am a mess" (said in a hopeless voice) is something I hear from clients often.  One of the areas I am most successful in is helping clients unwind "the mess."  Getting through the layers, releasing restrictions, and undoing compensation patterns. No matter how acute or chronic "the mess" may be, I am willing to roll up my sleeves and help clients sort through it so that they can find their way back to a state of comfort.

PRENATAL MASSAGE

Picture
Nurturing the Mother® pregnancy massage utilizes a comfortable, secure, side-lying position to avoid undue pressure on a growing abdomen and the lower back. Mothers get to sink in and relax deeply. They are completely supported by pillows, keeping the top hip, knee and ankle on the same level to avoid pulling on the sacroiliac joint and to maximize blood and lymph circulation.

Nurturing the Mother® with Elizabeth, combines the following methods:
  • Calming Swedish massage strokes for deep muscle relaxation, tension release and increased circulation.
  • Gentle range-of-motion and stretching movements to relieve pressure through neck, shoulders, rib cage, lower back and hips and to promote greater strength, flexibility and balance.
  • Deep tissue work in the hip and gluteal area to help alleviate chronic lower back and hip pain.
  • Abdominal massage to relieve round ligament pain, support digestion and increase circulation to the placenta and baby. Also increases awareness of the baby. The baby will feel and benefit from the massage.
  • CranioSacral Therapy for balance and centering.
  • Acupressure and reflexology techniques shown to be effective in treating many common pregnancy related complaints.

Learn more about PreNatal Massage

"I was inspired to become a massage therapist from a desire to help others and a passion for the capabilities of the human body.

Massage was a way I could help others while continuing to explore exactly what the human body can do.  After practicing massage for over 5 years, I continue to be amazed, surprised, and fascinated at all the human body is capable of and so honored to help others on their healing journeys."

More About Elizabeth

Picture
Elizabeth's first passion was martial arts. She practiced for 15 years, obtained a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and was an instructor at her school. Having students tell her how she had helped them in some way, no matter how big or small, was what fueled her passion. Her goal as an instructor was to guide students in their journey and help them recognize their strengths and potential. Towards the end of her martial arts career, as her body was starting to feel the effects of training, she realized it was time to move on and began seeking ways she could continue to help others.

It was then that Elizabeth discovered an interest for massage. However, her life journey said, "not yet." She moved from Maryland to Alaska, and still the timing wasn't right, but she never lost the desire to learn massage. A year later she found herself in Hawaii and she finally began her massage adventure. She received her education from Hawaii Healing Arts College on the island of Oahu. After completing their 600 hour program she stayed on as a Hawaii State Licensed Massage Therapist in their clinic.

Within 4 months of graduating Elizabeth found herself wanting even more from this new found passion. She began to pursue a certification in Clinical Massage Therapy. She spent another year completing the 200 hour program, learning more about the wonderful and complex human body, and fine tuning her skills. It was here she learned how to help guide her clients with their bodies just as she had with martial arts. She spent several years in Hawaii, continuing her education further, and working with variety of clients.

Now back in Maryland, Elizabeth is excited to continue her massage career in Annapolis at Alchemy Healing Arts Center.

Elizabeth strives to help clients become more aware and in touch with their bodies. She believes one of the keys to facilitate healing and bring balance to the body is self-awareness. Through massage, she guides clients and helps them discover the connection of mind and body to achieve their balance.
