SPORTS MASSAGE

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

Sports massage has become a highly sought after specialty as it provides real results for people who are working towards a physical goal or objective, often seeking to excel in competition. Athletes come in all ages, sizes, shapes, and conditions. Whether you are a weekend warrior, casual runner, or an elite competitor or a professional athlete, sports massage is widely known to be a significant advancement in training techniques and it brings results.

Sports Massage at Alchemy brings in a holistic view of bodywork. Following some of the most successful bodywork models, we focus on three things: the individual musculature that you use in your sport, the relationship between them and your movement, and your individual training regimen.  We utilize some orthopedic and osteopathic assessment techniques that may help isolate your issue to one muscle or muscle group and then we look at the entire kinetic chain, to see where else there may be fascial restriction, or a muscle that is being affected away from the initial site of complaint.  After addressing the specific muscular issues, we look at what elements of your movement have been affected by the sports massage.

Sabrina is Nationally Board Certified in Sports Massage and will bring a variety of individual techniques to each session as needed to address your individual need. Some of the techniques employed are:
  • Stretching and Flexibility Conditioning
  • Trigger Point Techniques
  • Strain/Counterstrain
  • Myofascial Release
  • PNF / MET / NMT
  • Friction
  • Deep Tissue Techniques
  • Ice Massage

Timing is important in Sports Massage and there are four phases during which different techniques will be used:
  • Pre-Event Massage – from 48 to 72 hours before the athletic experience.
  • Post-Event Massage –immediately after the event to 72 hours after.
  • Maintenance / Conditioning – preparing for an event or keeping your body in shape.
  • Rehabilitation / Injury Management – after an injury, or getting you back into condition after down time.

Sports massage is not for everyone and we are happy to discuss your needs more completely to help you discern your best choices. Feel free to give us a call, or schedule a session with Sabrina to experience the process.

A therapeutic massage session is generally looking to relieve pain and restrictions. Sabrina will draw on her years of experience and training to best integrate the techniques, such as deep tissue, Swedish, myofascial and trigger point, to address the client's goals for the day.

This multidisciplinary approach to massage has been a great success for many clients. It has been especially helpful in:

  • Restoring Frozen Shoulders to pain-free movement
  • Relaxing neck and upper back tension to relieve pain and headaches
  • Relieving arm and hand pain associated with brachial plexus and frozen shoulder issues, as well as carpal tunnel syndrome and thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Keeping Joint Replacement clients out of pain and moving freely
  • Releasing lower back pain
  • Addressing leg, knee and foot issues

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

When specific areas of pain, restriction, injury or tension are encountered, Deep Tissue Massage is employed in these areas. Elizabeth will use her specialty training and often incorporate the specific techniques of Trigger Point, Orthopedic and Myofascial work into these situations. This massage technique provides:
  • Improved healing of damaged or stressed muscle tissue
  • Slower work addresses more specific areas
  • Recovery from injuries or chronic pain
  • Restoration of mobility and flexibility
  • Release of congested or stuck muscle fibers, restoring mobility and flexibility
  • Restored fluid flow to muscle fibers, increasing oxygen and nutrient availability
  • Release of fascia and connective tissue

 HOT STONE MASSAGE THERAPY

A deeply relaxing massage technique that brings warmth and deep restoration to the body. It combines Swedish massage with the hot stones, which are used as tools by the therapist. The stones are then rested on the body to allow the heat to further warm the body. The heat and the stones combine to work out muscle soreness and tension. Overall the experience is warming and nurturing, as you feel the heat sink into your muscles, bringing relaxation and peace.
